Tolleen's eyes remain closed as she holds Mant's lifeless from. It's hard to believe he is gone. She can still feel the warmth emanating from his body, but...there's no energy to it...no life...
She slides her cheek across Mant's forehead and plants a gentle kiss there. The taste of her own saline tears dances on her lips. As she opens her eyes, she becomes aware of forms moving in the distance around her. Tolleen's not initially sure if her inability to resolve the forms visually is a result of her eyes being closed for so long, or the fact that they still seem to be filled with an excess of moisture. After a few seconds, she realizes the forms are those of her party; assembling and leaving the room.

Audi's with them.

She should join them, she thinks.

She looks down at Mant one more time and draws the back of her fingers across his forehead one more time.

In a minute, she thinks to herself.

...

A short while later, Tolleen gently places Mant's head on the cold marble floor. She closes his eyelids with the tip of her index finger and crosses his arms on his chest. "I will be back for you", she whispers.

As if in reply, Tolleen is startled by a loud tink on the marble floor as something falls from Mant's hand. Picking it up, Tolleen realizes it is the jade swan Mant showed her before. She picks it up, looks it over, and places it in her belt pouch. "Thank you", she says softly, touching Mant's hand one final time.

Tollen stands up and snifs loudly. She wipes her running nose and red, bloodshot eyes on her forearm and draws her handaxe, flipping it over her hand and rolling her fingers tightly around its leather grip.

"It's time", she says, to no one in particular.

...

Minutes later, Tolleen has caught up to the rest of the party. She places a firm grasp on Audi's right shoulder, to let him know she is there. He glances over his right shoulder to see her hand and several red curls. They never make eye contact. They never say a word to each other. Everything that needs to be communicated between the two warriors has already been so, as if through some efficient form of empathy that only the two of them share.

Erdath calls out to Gawaine, "You are free of the spirits, now is the time to get back at those inside." He turns to Audi, "What I would like best is for you not to end up like that again." He smiles at the boy. "Lets get in there and help the others." With that being said, he turns and runs inside after the others.

Karl doesn't say anything, merely nodding. Unstrapping his staff, a look of grim determination, he follows the others inside.

If the enemies are far enough away, Harwan will try to throw a dagger at Ungulian before turning towards the statues using his sword. It seems clear that the baron and Sven has some history, but Harwan wouldn't mind warming up the traitor before leaving him to Sven to deal with.

"We must get to the Well", he mutters under his breath. Hoping his allies might hear it.

Sven looks over at Harwan and the others as he approaches Ungulian and says
"You go on and deal with the Maiden and the Well while I keep Ungulian busy."

Harwan nods quickly. Then swallows and moves on towards the well. He tries to ignore the nagging voice in the back of his head saying "Never split the party..."

In the same moment that Hrrd thinks this, the voice are gone...

Instead, and much to his surprise, the bearman sees Bravous, the little raccoon swim DOWNWARDS, passing next to him...

The little raccoon does not bother to explain his action for the moment,
but in the moment Hrrd lifts his eyes upwards, he sees...

Ungulian immediately proceeds to attack Sven.

The baron is strong, stronger than any man the half-elf has ever crossed swords with,
and he pushes Sven around like a puppy.

But the half-elf's defense holds somehow, and, though he begins to loose ground agains the former baron, Ungulian has no luck with his blows and does not hit him.

gsvenson wrote:
"Maroon, any suggestions you can offer would be greatly appreciated! This is our chance ot avenge my Grandfather!"

As he sends this command, Sven realizes his magic sword is already glowing in a dim green...

Maybe Maroon is the cause Ungulian doesn't buther him right away...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Time to get a bit epic.

Helmed by Tolleen, Audi, Karl, Erdath, Gawaine and Gothmog
do not waste any of the precious seconds any more, and storm into the palace's entrance hall.

Immediately, they are engaged in a fierce battle.

Tolleen is attacked by two statues with the heads of an hyena, but Audi and Karl
rush to her aid, being unable to injure the creatures, but managing to block their blows, at least for now.

Gawaine, his warcry "Luthien!" loud on his lips, plunges on two of the other statues, both with snake-heads on their marble trunks.

His magic sword and dagger, however, seem to be able to hurt the golems, and
stone splints shoot through the air around him...

Gothmog himself is like a rock falling on the golems, sundering them out of the entrance, and to the wall.
The orc may fail to seriously harm them as well, but at least can throw them around - and out of the way...

Erdath, in the second line of those who enter, has no immediate opponent on him... The way through the curtains seems free...

Taking a look back, Erdath can see Dirken and Bobby, still stadning before Mant's dead body...

The little bearman is sobbing.

Harwan immediately knows that he has wasted his dagger:

Ungulian doesn't even look at him when he throws it.
Instead, the baron's sword leashes out with supernatural speed and blocks the course of your missile...

Clinging against the broad side of Ungulians long silver blade, the dagger falls out of your sight, between the feet of the other fighters...

havard wrote:

This old tactical rule still clings in Harwan's head as he hastes away from the fight,
and towards the curtains...

A second later, he is through it, and away from the chaos... Into a new one.

Harwan is standing in another foreroom to the throne hall, tapestries and curtains instead
of walls.

All around him lie dead Afridhi and Blackmoorian warriors.

Willem of the Heath, over a pile of bodies, arrows pierced through his throat.

And as he steps over the corpses of his fallen comrades...
Harwan is abruptly halted and falls down, between the dead...

A hand, two fingers nothing but bloody stamps, is holding the ancle of your right foot!

Dirken places his hand on the cubs shoulder. Its time little cub to fight for our lives and the future. Stay close to the amazon, but far enough away to avoid her fury.

Dirken will then listen for any sign of Zuki. Then will head for Zuki with all haste tumbleing, hiding, and sneaking his way through battle as fast as he can.

Realizing that he is over matched, Sven will fight defensively, hoping that he can hold out for the party to destroy the Well and take Ungulian down with it, since he is among the undead, having seen him torn apart during the previous day's battle. Sven will gradually retreat to toward the entrance to the building where the rest of the party went.

TEETH! BIG TEETH! With no escape from something that size in an unfamiliar and unfriendly environment, Hrrd decides to burn off one of his more powerful spells to cast summon nature's ally II and bring a crocodile in to help with his escape. He has never tried to cast spells underwater before, so even though he can speak the words he has no idea if it will work. If he still has a chance after that, he will try to dodge out of the way.

[game=off]
Unfortunately, casting this spell is a full round action. His spell will either be disrupted or he will take some damage (or be swallowed whole) if he can keep his concentration.
[game=on]

Erdath charges into the room with Black Flame in one hand and wand of lightning in the other. He knows that the key to ending this evil is to destroy the well regardless of what happens to his own life and charges for the curtain. He scans the room looking for enemies blasting any that he can with his lightning wand so he doesn't hit any of the blackmoorian soldiers.

"Aaaah!" Horror grips Harwan as he sees the mutilated corpses of his fallen friends come to life. Overtaken by horror, he will try to hack at the corpses grabbing at him to come free.

Another undead hand comes out of the pile of bodies, grabbing Harwan leather boot with clawed figners,
but in the end unable to pierce through it.

Yet, the weight of the body that holds him and the intensitiy of the fallen soldier's grip is too strong
for Harwan to free himself.

... Around him, with infernal groans, the other corpses begin to move...

Erdath storms thorugh the curtain...

To see Sergeant Harwan on the ground, wrestling with an undead...

And three other revenants rising from their puddles of blood,
their dead eyes glowing from hunger...

The next strikes Karl delivers seem to effect the Hyena more than the earlier ones...

Though the golem is still winning over him, and gaining ground...

Though it is too slow to harm him, every blow the creature deals is getting faster and more precise...

Karl has to do something, or his quarterstaff might even break under the hits from the stone axe...

Meanwhile, Audi is defending Tolleen from the blows of the other golem,
blocking the stone monster's scimitar with his shield...

Like the Hyena fighting Karl, this one is becoming increasingly more dexterious and quick,
as if it was only slowling awakening from hibernation...

From the other side of the entrance hall, he gets a glance of Gothmog unceremoniously smashing
one of the golems' head with the flag pole...
So, maybe it's not a magical protection, but indeed just a question of brute force...

It is important to note that suddenly, and against all probability,
a Sperm Crocodile had been called into existence,
several meters under the surface of an alien planet,
and within what is best described as a rift between two dimensional planes.
And since this is not a naturally tenable position for a crocodile,
this innocent creature had very little time to come to terms with its identity.
This is what it thought, as it was devoured:

Ahhh! Woooh! What's happening? Who am I? Why am I here?
What's my purpose in life? What do I mean by who am I?
Okay okay, calm down calm down get a grip now.
Ooh, this is an interesting sensation.
What is it? Its a sort of tingling in my... well I suppose I better start finding names for things.
Lets call it a... tail! Yeah! Tail!
And hey, what's this roaring sound,
whooshing past what I'm suddenly gonna call my head?
Waves!
Is that a good name?
It'll do. Yeah, this is really exciting.
I'm dizzy with anticipation! Or is it the waves?
There's an awful lot of that now isn't it?
And what's this thing coming toward me very fast?
So big and black and smelling of sulfur,
it needs a big wide sounding name like 'Ser', 'Onser', 'Monser', 'MONSTER'!
That's it!
Monster!
Ha! I wonder if it'll be friends with me?

Hello Monster!

Hrrd casts his spell, and by-an-inch, is missed be the gargantuan-like, colossal jaw, that closes around
the poor crocodile and swallows it with one bite. Swimming on the underside
of the dragon-like, black-scaled creature, Hrrd can see the shine of the monster's red eyes...

And, then, through the flow of the water stream in this strange, bottomless pit,
he feels how the dragon pulls his head back, up to the surface...

Dirken remembers to have heard an explosion, like from his magic green balls,
from one of the house's upper levels...
To get there, he'd have to cross the entrance hall, of course...

But befire he can do anything, Dirken feels Bobby poking him in the side.

"I have climbing gear, uncle. I can carry you to the broken window upstairs.
With your magic fire, you can roast those monsters inside!"

Without awaiting Dirken's answer, Bobby will drop his backpack
and put on on spiked gloves and boots...

While Hrrd is fighting for his life, the battle in the entrance wages on...

Gawaine holds two of the snake-headed statues at bay at the same time,
whirling around them like a Peshwan sword-dancer.

But despite the efforts of your comrades, the luck seems to have left the Company of the Maiden...

While Audi and Sven barely cope with the increasingly stronger attacks of the stone golems,
Sven trembles under Ungulian's blows.

Finally, the mad baron smashes his shoulder onto Sven's defense,
uncaring if Sven cuts him or not, and then delivers a mighty blow against Sven's right knee. [5 DAM, and kneecap probably dislocated.]

Stripped of his safe stand, the half-elf looses his balance and stumbles down.

While the brawl around them continues, and Sven's companions watch the scene, helplessly,
Ungulian awaits until the half-elf has regained his orientation,
but, with a short movement of his sword, neglects Sven to stand up again.

The tip of his black sword pointing straight to Sven's throat,
Ungulian roars with his strange, otherwordly jarring voice:

"Time to end this, Ithamis. Prepare to die."

Tolleen, realizing that Audi is still unarmed, will offer him her masterwork club for the time being as she continues to chip away with her axe.

Upon realizing Sven's predicament, Tolleen calls to rally the Company's forces to Sven's defense. Tolleen races at Ungulian with her axe, in an attempt to draw his attack away from Sven.
